Disraeli gears

This is, in my opinion, the best album cover of all time. I know it's a huge call to make, but it just speaks to me as perfection. plus it helps that the band Cream is one of my fave bands also.

ART DECO GOODNESS

experimental website

I decided to focus on the two main uses for the internet, porn and cute pictures of kittens. It frustrated me that every time i would try and find reference images for projects using google images, no matter what the subject, without fail there would be pornographic images and pictures of cute cats and dogs. I decided to keep this project as fun as possible so i would stay focused and motivated for anything using a digital format is extremely overwhelming for me.
I also wanted to make sure that i created a website where each page would link to the 5th page for that would be the page that explained my motivation for the website.
For my images that I used for the website, I gathered them from google image and then manipulated them using photoshop. I chose to crudely draw over them to create a low class appearance, one that was child like and simple to present a feel of low budget and low quality.
Each page had a sexually suggestive line to go with the image which was worded in chinglish. This was to relate to websites I have viewed that have been Asian and generally incoherent when using the english language. It was also to create a cuteness to the website and a vulnerability to the images which was to make them more creepy to view.
Each page was decorated with a bright, cute colour mostly pinks and purples to enhance the cuteness of the layout.

check this website out. it's great for keeping your eyes and mind satisfied.

Personal website research

Now it's time to really start looking around for inspiration for my personal website. I have had a look around at other artists websites which is helping me form my own ideas for my website.
http://www.madiillustration.co.uk/home.html

Madi's web page is wonderful because it not only is clear and clean but it also strongly relates itself visually to illustration which i really appreciate.
The only problem i have with it is that it may not use the space well enough for there is a lot of bare white areas and condensed areas of imagery which makes the over all composition of the page unappealing.

Another artists website which i explored was Kira Leigh's. I really didn't like her website because the hot spots on the left top of the page were too small and the two sections of the layout was confusing to view. I think because of the complexity of her artwork, she would have benefited by using a one colour background to help separate the images further.

Also, the flashing gif in the corner was just annoying and constant in my peripheral vision. I'm all for an animated element in websites but that was an example of an noneffective one.

This website has a review of a wonderful comic that uses colour to enhance the tone of the book.

BEST WEBSITE EVER!

This website is perfect for when you are having one of those days where it is so hard to think of any ideas. I always give it a check when I have nothing in the old mind tank.

Web design

I have never been an illustrator that relies on any form of digital rendering or worked using computers. Through my final semester, we have been getting to know html and css which is such a huge deal for me. My brain just does not think that way so I'm finding it quite difficult to do the simplest tasks in regards to web design. I do realize that it is extremely important for me to try and gain as much information as i can in these last few months because its definitely a skill that would help any illustrator immensely in promoting themselves. so here is to digital class!
